Fiat has done well, has been able to correctly differentiate a product that shares with Mazda. It only reminds us that we are in front of the base of an MX-5 when we enter inside and sit down, the dimensions of habitability and some details warn us that the 124 Spider and the MX-5 are close cousins.
The Abarth version of the 124 Spider is very striking, the Italians have worked to strengthen an aggressive image that conveys sportiness. In Geneva we could see it with a two-tone paint, black and white, along with details in red as the mirror housings, brake calipers, or the front spoiler located on the front bumper.
The front bumper is more aggressive and wider, as soon as you see it you know you're not looking at a Fiat 124 Spider. No need to look at the scorpion that presides over the front. The front skirts are wider, the wheel arch is conditioned to transmit sportiness. The rear exudes sportiness, a new rear bumper design, four exhaust outlets located two at each end and a black diffuser that makes visual harmony with the hood and the trunk lid.
The wheels are 17-inch with a very "Abarth" design and the front axle hides oversized aluminum calipers signed by Brembo. A braking system that aims to be effective to tame the 170 hp provided by the 1.4-litre MultiAir Turbo petrol engine. The brand assures us that signs a 0 to 100 km / h in just 6.8 seconds and a top speed of 230 km / h. To channel this power it offers a six-speed manual gearbox or an optional sequential automatic with paddle shifters behind the steering wheel.
It still boasts one of its best assets, its low weight. The Abarth 124 Spider weighs in at 1,060 kg, a good combination of weight and power that makes this 124 Spider a real giant-killer.
To top it all off the scorpion guys know that not only has to visually transmit a lot of sportiness this new vehicle, or have a good mechanical heart under the hood or have a very sporty behavior. The icing on the cake of all these good ingredients is the sound provided by the "Record Monza" exhaust system that will remind you at all times that you are driving a very special vehicle.
