From the A-pillar onwards, all exterior parts have been reworked. These are external subtleties that, together with the redesigned seats, glass gear lever, new door and armrest trims and state-of-the-art multimedia system, add to the elegance and perfection of this exclusive, hand-crafted model.
24 colours to choose from for affluent Mulsanne customers
The heart of the Mulsanne remains unchanged. The twin-turbo V8 with 6,752 cc, 1,020 Nm of torque and 512 hp is, for the time being, a more than sufficient powerplant for the purpose of this car. The Speed variant gets an additional power boost to 537 hp and 1,100 Nm of torque, and gets from 0 to 96 km/h in 4.8 seconds. This edgier model, which landed on the market last year, also benefits from the new design of the Mulsanne family.
An eight-speed gearbox made by ZF has been used to transmit such a dose of horsepower to the rear wheels. The Mulsanne family has a new approach to air suspension, adjustable to suit the customer's taste according to three predefined programmes (Normal, Sport and Comfort) and one bespoke programme (Custom). The engine and suspension mounts have been revised. Bentley also says it has lowered rolling noise by 4 dB.
The third member of the line-up, Mulsanne EWB, represents the real news from the winged "b" at Geneva 2016. This variant adds an extra 25 centimetres of wheelbase (from 3,266 mm to 3,516 mm) with the aim of providing more space in the already spacious rear seats. The rear seats, closer to those of a luxury aircraft than those of a conventional car, will appeal to a clientele that enjoys being passengers rather than drivers. The brand says that it is the most luxurious thing that exists on four wheels.
Optionally it can be equipped with a sound system -Naim for Bentley Premium Audio- with 20 speakers, 20 channels, 2,200 watts, two 10.2″ tablets (like Audi), WiFi, 60GB SSD hard drive, etc. Completing the technological cast are adaptive headlights, and new active safety assistants, such as blind spot warning. Deliveries to customers will begin this summer.
Accompanying the Mulsanne 2017 family at the annual event in Geneva, the SUV proposal of the brand: Bentley Bentayga, which without being the most topical novelty will grab a good number of looks, and the Bentley Flying Spur V8 S, a model born as an evolution of the Continental family.
