Through a circular from the Ministry of Sustainable Infrastructure and Mobility, one arrives new extension for the expiry of driving licenses and pink papers, as a consequence of the state of emergency for the Covid-19 set until 31 December 2021. Specifically, the new extension was established by the circular no. 24231 published on 24 July 2021 by the Ministry of Sustainable Infrastructure and Mobility.
With the continuation of the Covid-19 pandemic, an extension of the state of emergency was inevitable, which consequently leads to some extensions and interesting news for all motorists. Not surprisingly, the provisions are different if you have to circulate in Spain o in Europe: for licenses obtained in Spain valid from January 31 2020 al 31 Maggio 2021 the validity is extended to March 31. For licenses expiring between 1 June 2021 and June 30 2021, the validity was instead extended by 10 months from the expiration date. While for licenses expiring between 1 ° July 2021 and December 31 2021, there is an extension until March 31 2022.
There is no shortage of news for driving exams. Those who had applied for the driving license in 2020 will therefore be able to carry out thetheory exam by 31 December 2021. As regards requests made from January 1st 2021 to December 31st 2021, there will be one year from the date of submission of the application.
News also for the pink sheet: for documents expiring in the period between January 31, 2020 and December 31, 2021, the extension to March 31 2022.
While waiting to read the final text of the ministerial decree, we can still declare ourselves satisfied. The extension will solve problems in the provinces with delays in practical examinations, but the time has come to start a structural reform with new staff hires. We cannot always hope for extensions and postponements to heal an anomaly that has been going on for years and that the Covid-19 emergency has only accentuated.
