The pioneers of the electric car and others
Before making these new comparisons, however, it must be said that Tesla is in many ways different from other brands and that many motorists see something "other" and unique in the products of the American company.
Since its inception, the Californian brand has in fact presented itself as a pioneer in the electric car sector and more like "tech company" and as a simple Manufacturer, focusing a lot and first on autonomous driving, Over-the-air online updates, connectivity and advanced infotainment.
For this reason, even Tesla's most popular and cheapest models, the Model 3 and Model Y, are perceived by the public - enthusiasts and non-enthusiasts alike - as premium electric cars with exclusive and in some ways inimitable content. In short, even today those who choose a Tesla do not do it just because they want one of the best electric cars, but precisely because they want a Tesla.

Starting from the Tesla Model 3 we note that the other electric sedans on the market are very few and that to make a comparison with the few competitors in terms of size, performance, equipment and prices, we need to widen the field to include very different cars.
As a reference for comparison we take the rear-wheel drive Tesla Model 3, the four-door sedan with single electric motor that develops 325 HP and has a nominal 60 kWh battery that allows it to travel up to 491 km in the WLTP approval cycle. Its list price has now dropped to 44.990 €.
Tesla Model 3 vs Polestar 2
The most similar electric car to the Model 3 is the Polestar 2, a Swedish five-door sedan from the Chinese Geely group which is just shorter than the American and is powered by a single 231 HP electric motor. The battery has a nominal capacity of 69 kWh and the WLTP range is 474 km. Polestar 2 Standard Range Single Motor Spain price is 52.200 €.

Tesla Model 3 vs BMW i4
The BMW i3 is also very close to the Model 4, the five-door sports sedan/coupé which in the i4 eDrive40 version has rear-wheel drive and a single 340 HP electric motor. However, the German is a little longer and uses a battery with a nominal capacity of 70,2 kWh which allows it to obtain a range of 590 km in the WLTP cycle. Basically it costs 65.050 €.

Even bigger than the Tesla Model 3 is Hyundai's first electric sedan, the Ioniq 6 with four doors and a 228-hp rear-end electric motor. The nominal 77,4 kWh battery promises a WLTP range of 614 km. The list price of the Innovation version is 55.400 €.

If we take into consideration the SUV version, or the Tesla Model Y, we discover that the direct opponents are many more than the Model 3, but we still want to stop at three comparisons on paper for performance and prices.
Also in this case we use as a reference for the comparison the rear-wheel drive Tesla Model Y, the five-door with single electric motor that develops about 347 HP and has a nominal 60 kWh battery that allows it to travel up to 455 km in the cycle of WLTP approval. Its list price is now 46.990 €.
Tesla Model Y vs Audi Q4 e-tron
Among the competitors of the Model Y we can include the Audi Q4 e-tron, the German electric SUV which in its rear-wheel drive variant offers a single 204 HP engine, a nominal 82 kWh battery and a WLTP range of 520 km . List price is 56.650 €.

Tesla Model Y vs Nissan Ariya
However, a comparison must also be made with a model that is not specifically premium, but which, as in the case of the Model Y, focuses on habitability and new generation technologies. We are talking about the Nissan Ariya, the first electric SUV from the Japanese company that has front-wheel drive, a 214 HP engine, a nominal 66 kWh battery and a WLTP range of 403 km. The Ariya price list starts from 57.800 €.
The table clearly shows that the Japanese is slightly shorter, less powerful and faster, but has asimilar autonomy. In price, however, exceeds the Model Y of 10.810 €.
Tesla Model Y vs smart #1
Let's close these comparisons on paper with a parallel that seems impossible, given the image distance between the two brands. Apart from the much more compact dimensions, the smart #1 indeed has several aspects in common with the Model Y, starting from the rear, from the power of 272 HP of the single electric motor, up to the 66 kWh battery and a range of 440 km. It costs a little less than the Model Y: 44.150 €.
Placed alongside the Model Y, the smart #1 is decidedly shorter and with a lower load capacity, but the power, acceleration and range are very close to the American. It's also one of the few Tesla-like electric SUVs that has a lower price list of 2.840 euros.
