Tesla explains the meaning of the logo (the T has nothing to do with it)

There have been various theories about it for a long time meaning of the Tesla logo. In fact, to a distracted eye it might seem like the initial of the brand, but many have often doubted this simplistic version. Skeptics assumed that the supposed "T" was actually one section of an electric motor first designed by the inventor and physicist the company referenced, Nikola Tesla. And this theory has finally been confirmed by Elon Musk.

The electric car maker's CEO said the logo was made by RO Studio, the same company that designed the SpaceX logo, and the same approach was used in both cases. Where SpaceX's logo identifies the path of a rocket, Tesla's depicts a part of the engine that brings the whole electric car concept to life. Initially it was thought to place the logo inside a shield, an idea that was later shelved.

Musk also stated that he met Franz von Holzhausen thanks to RO Studio. Then Director of Design for Mazda, von Holzhausen quickly joined Tesla to become the company's Chief Designer. In addition to the logo, the new manager has followed decidedly important projects, such as that of Model S, and we can say that he was a pivotal man within the stylistic path chosen shortly thereafter by the entire company.

Musk confirmed the theory about meaning of the Tesla logo within a tweet from last week. Tesla uses alternating current electric motors and, despite the design differences with the motor conceived about a century earlier by the great Serbian physicist, the basic idea is similar. A tribute, therefore, which is also the same reason why the founders Martin Eberhard and Marc Tarpenning borrowed the name of the brilliant inventor for their own company.
