In some cases consulting the car manual is inevitable to open the boot with a flat batterybecause it's not just about finding the jump cord. In the meantime, if you're unlucky or have simply left the car stationary for a while, here's how to open the doors if the battery of the Keyless remote control is flat. But now let's see what to do to unlock the tailgate with a flat battery and how the Manufacturers anticipate these emergency situations.

FLAT BATTERY AND LOCKED TRUNK: HOW TO OPEN IT

There are many different ways, based on the model and the brand to open the trunk in an emergency. A common situation especially in electric or plug-in hybrid cars, when the 12V battery is flat, is having to unlock the charging flap manually. This is easily done only after reaching the safety straps which are usually in the boot when the flap is on the back. But even when it comes to traditional cars, opening the tailgate is more complicated than you think. The most curious solution for example on some German cars, such as Porsche, but also adopted by Tesla requires the use of a jump starter or booster.

– On some models Porsche to unlock the electric locks of the front or rear compartment, just connect the positive cable to a predetermined point in the fuse compartment and the negative to an earth point.

OPEN THE TRUNK WITH THE BATTERY COMPLETELY DISCHARGED

The emergency opening of the rear trunk much more widespread, however, requires some additional physical exercise. Before concentrating on the trunk, however, you need to open the driver's door and unlock one of the rear doors. Be careful because even in this case Tesla has adopted an original system: in the footwell of the rear sofa there are two buttons, one on each side, to unlock the rear doors from inside the Model S. Once you reach the rear sofa, on any car, just fold it over and finally get to the emergency release mechanism. But it's not over, because to open the rear trunk without a battery, you need to locate the cover that hides the release and can be:

– a simple button to lift as in the image below and then push the tailgate from the inside;

– the most common solution instead provides for a cap to be removed with the help of a screwdriver near the internal lock, less practical but equally functional for unlocking the boot in an emergency.
