Tesla Model 3, goodbye to car keys - Tesla Club Italy

After more than one hundred and thirty years, the car keys they definitely could be arrive at the end of the line. Thanks to Tesla, which with the Model 3 has definitively put the classic car key in the attic, and with them the expression "keys in hand” that we have heard so many times in the past. The new model of the Palo Alto house, in fact, among the reasons why it has made headlines also boasts that of having replaced the key with a phone app. A fact this is also possible with Model S e Model X, which however goes further with the Model 3: when you don't have the phone with you, or there is no reception, the car opens thanks to a special card.

We don't have the key in our pocket or purse, just the key smartphone? No problem, our Model 3 opens automatically as we approach it. Once you get on it, it turns on, and when you reach your destination, it turns off, and then it closes. In practice, if you install the appropriate application on our phone the Model 3 does it all by itself thanks to tecnologia Bluetooth Low Energy (LE), i.e. the low-consumption one.

Obviously, it happens to all of us that we don't have a field, or that you have forgotten, broken or lost your mobile phone. In these cases, Tesla supplies two plastic cards equipped with NFC chips (Near Field Communication), therefore equipped with a connectivity technology that allows one two-way communication between the car and the card approached at a distance of at least 4 cm.

The main way to open a Model 3 so that's it via app on your iOS and Android smartphone. As mentioned, a possibility you also have with the Model S and Model X, although with these two models when you don't want to use the key it is necessary access a specific section of the application or open a widget.

To some, and not just to nostalgic, the keys may be missing, despite the comfort that you no longer have to carry them with you. Especially those of the Model S and Model X (the latter in the photo below), so well-finished, functional, beautiful both to see and to touch.

What lifts Some doubts, not among those who know or own Tesla, but among those who are only now approaching it, concerns the safety. We at Tesla Club Italy, knowing full well what level Tesla has already reached in terms of cybersecurity and what are the continued efforts of this automaker for raise the bar more and more when it comes to safety (understood in every sense), we sleep soundly. A Tesla is much less likely to be opened or turned on with this app, of how much danger a car with the classic opening/closing and switching on/off system runs, and therefore with a key to always carry around.

Sure we must be careful not to lose or damage our phone, Ea don't forget to have an emergency card in your pocket. But those are problems we already have with keys (and a thousand other objects) that we sure don't depend on Tesla. If anything, from the excess of things that weigh us down when we travel, and that reduce in size and quantity it wouldn't hurt us at all.
